core duo is slightly slower than the new Core2 duo, but should offer better performance than turion and uses less power. But it is probably more pricy too.
Not much of a difference if you ask me. But blender 64bit support is sorta buggy rightnow, you are much better off with the 32bit blender.
in short:
Turion = good
Core Duo = better
64bit linux= trouble (no flash plugin, little driver support, etc…)
64bit blender = BAD! (Stay Away)
