Amoo Project: Realistic Female (fairy style)

Ive been working on this model called Amoo over a lot of time and It still hasnt a decent map, neither a good armature.

Due lack of order in topology I couldnt to make a good unwrapping and the model still have incorrect number of edges, but I stand on idea that quads are beautiful but perfect, some features seem best when have few triangles that do not affect whole model topology. I dont want to be perfect in my models, I want to give them life with imperfection.


Amoo has evolved from different modeling techniques and started it out being chaotic in her mesh because the acretion from shapes that welding into her, literally has been patched over and over mainly with a technique some artists call islands ,for that reason she has reached some level of realistic. But still has face proportion situations.

So far this technique is pretty obsolete but I used it for low medium res realistic models

I will try to share some usefu links and references to give a better idea what*s on my mind

Recently Ive solved a strange problem about retopo tools................... So theres a methodology for reuse topology, in this case I took Sintel`s model to modify it on a not so different form -although style- in a way I can use for a totally different model. Here the results:

I think I have to mix them or refinate some edgeloops in both of them.

One is made of mine, the last one is fitted and fixed from Sintel topology

Green eyes is a cleaner mesh.
Purple eyes could be cleaned up, I think some of the topology you have in place to add more definition to the face but have since smoothed it out making it somewhat redundant - maybe started aiming for an older face?

No way!, there`s no older face. But the whole reason you have, and yes I wanted to give more definition to the face. Thanks!.
I am a brand new…so I think I can give it out definition with multires and then a normal map…uh?..I gonna delete some redundant edgeloops…and some fixes to triangles…yep!

Amoo is a princess from a medieval tale, she cannot be old. So far, instead give her a better topology I consider these few fixes in topology can be enough…Starting UV unwrap…!

But wait, which clothes fit better to she? A medieval armature or a smooth dress?

No offense but she looks ugly for a princess. Especially that side view. that nose is huge! She looks like a witch in the side view.
I do like the image in the right in post number for, the one with sintel’s topology. That one actually looks pretty.
Even though the last angled renders dont look too bad. but when you look at the side…

Anyway, i am only trying to give you constructive criticism, i hope you can improve her :slight_smile:
As for clothes i like the largest image in the last post (the one on the bottom left, with the crown and the amulet.)

Oh yeah and double check those proportions, the buttoks looks huge, and the head small (from first post)

Nice work, but agreed she’s quite ugly for a princess. Not to discourage you. I think you should push the temple a bit more outwards and work on the nose, its too snubbed-like.

I like the proportions of the body. I agree that the face needs work, though.

Fixing this awful princess seems complete, Amoo will be the good princess the other one princess is the bad.

Body proportions are now good perhaps just some tweaks more, and finally some shape key tests wow!!!

Now, need to go to uv map and the armature setup harder tasks…I go to do some benchmarks with Sintel, Mancandy and other excellent rigs.

Cast of Characters for Cephis Project

Amoo project is aiming to achieve a very good rig and character for blender and learn from it, but somewhat be prototype for other characters in another project called Cephis Project that has its own aims. Achieving this rig is priority, it should take some days to get material for skin and a very good rig armature, although is not easy.
Some to dos for now:

Get all textures
Get Complete rig for high res Amoo and settings for good deformations for production
Once high res Amoo is finished, it should to create low res Amoo for games with normal maps -This last for creative commons-
Get articulated low res Amoo for animation tests -also a priority-




Constraints for models are that only must be from photos and other references to gain time with textures and face animations (last one photo is a serious suggestion)

I keep working on uv map but still i can do some changes, well the nose is not so ugly, in fact, there were some errors over nose bridge (this part wasn`t checked well).

Hope you like this now.

Some tweaks I made recently


She`s not Barbie, she cannot be as beautiful but much more real, with few make ups she will look less ugly.

She has beautiful eyes. And the mouth is fine.
But the nose is ugly. Just make the nose tip smaller.
Eventually, for realism, you must make some adjustments of the head, becouse shee looks very unrealistic in the side view. In the front view she looks ok (except the nose).

I don’t know why, but I can say I like her. I’m not expecting that you agree to give me a blend file of the head, and let me work a little on it. But if you would, I think I could make her look really nice.

Ok, you want to improve her?..one condition not to leave from italian features (nose width, jaw projection -just a bit if you like-), just try to follow the leftmost picture in post number 11

Just do not steal my work, you can do modifications but do not use the same form, the same face for other works of you.

Significative modifications on stablished topology on Amoo will be done after riggin’ & mapping

I will not leave from the features you like.
I just like her, that’s why I’m going to try to make her prettier.
Of course I will not use your work for others of mine, I already have my own human base meshes and I also have a 3d girl almost finished, with armature and… other features - not italian, I could say… russian.
Anyway, I use to work on lower density meshes, up to 3000 polys/ character base, so this model doesn’t fit into my workflow.
