An emission only plane?

I have a ship modeled in blender that has some emission textures on certain parts. I am going to put this into a camera tracked scene with a background, and I want the light that is shining onto the plane (representing the ground) to show, but not the plane. Essentially, I want it to look like the lights are shining onto the ground of the scene. How would I accomplish this in the node editor (I am just assuming the node editor is the solution.)?

For the emission plane object turn off ‘Camera’ in the Ray Visibility section of the object Properties.
The plane will then not be visible to the camera

This makes the plane vanish, which is what I want, but I cannot see the light that my spaceship is shining onto the plane, which is the most important part.
