An example of vendor lock-in: Autocad 2007

We installed acad 2007 in our office, modelled a boxy model to tweak in blender, typed ‘3dsout’:
Unknown Command !

It appears acad 2007 no longer exports to 3ds nor dxf, only acis sat…

I feel it is deliberate to force users to opt for 3dsmax.

enough people complained that they brought it back apparently

Filthy capitalists … :ba:

What’s funny is that someone actually gave that the green light thinking it would work.

“This site cannot be viewed in your browser. This site contains active content that can only be viewed in Microsoft Internet Explorer” - EXACTLY what Netscape feared. Here, today, personally witnessed by yours truly.

Why in the heck-fire are you using AutoCAD to do 3D, anyway? Go parametric, dood! (Thnx for the link/tip LetterRip… good to know!)

See ‘AutoCad export to .3ds format’ if you’re having trouble with that export utility.

Is it possible to turn that autodesk 3ds exporter in a stand-alone feature? we then could use it with intellicad based cad software. just a thought…

I think TurboCAD is the way to go, because I have used it several times for my projects. I have successfully exported 3D home plans in .3ds or .obj and later edited it, if you are only using it for basic architecture.
