LOL AO is what to use if the renderer doesn’t have GI (which YAFRAY does)

Thanks for your answer. I mean with yafray plug-in. I tried to activate AO in Blender but without success.

Ah, nice work! I keep hearing about this yafray… what’s yafray?

Yet Another Free RAYtracer

Before Blender had an internal raytrace renderer, people used yafray as an external renderer.

If you look in the render buttons window in Blender, below the render button it says Blender internal. Click on this and choose yafray, a new menu will appear.

Piovasco, good work so far.

Sonix.

Ah I see. Now that blender has an internal render, would it be any different to render in Yafray?

Anyways, I’ve seen the tutorial of Joan of Arc. Its awesome, but I only really looked at it before I started modeling in 3D.

Yes. Here are the differences

Blender is faster and better intergrated into blender (duh) but yafray will generaly render better pictures (unless you hit problems with lack of intergrated blender features.

Hi PixelSage,

Blender already had an internal render. It was scanline priorprior to v. 2.32.

From Blender.org:

Yafray is an open source ray tracer, offering Global Illumination and Photon Mapping, for high quality photorealistic rendering. Since Blender release 2.32, export to Yafray is integrated in Blender.

Yafray is hosted and maintained independently from Blender at www.yafray.org.

Blender 2.34 was released with a Yafray plug-in

This is a litte update.
I modified head, body and added an arm (not finished, as you can see).

C&C are welcome

nice modelling.
Two things on my mind!

  1. I can´t figure out if it is plastic or some kinda metal?
  2. Could the upper “teeth” fill those gaps, so that all the gaps would be filled!?! :-? Maybe could look good…just my opinion!

Anyways like it a lot!

I’v not decided yet if the material will appear as plastic or as metal. Anyway, does someone can tell me where to find a good tutorial to realize plastic and metallic materials?
Thanks in advance

Not sure of any tutes, but you’re welcome to try any of the materials from my Car material library. Click the link in my signature, there are metalic and plastic materials included.

Modeling is looking good, although I’d make the upper ‘teeth’ a bit sharper to match the squareness of the lower jaw, perhaps use a subsurf crease or two.

Sonix.

the thread is a bit chaotic, and I’m tired.
but in case you didn’t get help on the AO issue, remember, that AO in blender internal renderer, requires raytracing (“ray”) turned on, in render panel (f10).
and AO itself, ofcourse, was set on the world buttons (f8).

for yafray go to the Yafray GI tab and play with the settings. thats the AO equivalent

Yes, GI in Yafray is quite nice, but expect considerably longer render times. Example: with my current WIP, if I render a 12X10 in Blender Internal, with AO, it takes about 2-2.5 hours with 16x AA (poly count is hitting 280,000 without sub-ds, close to 2 million with). In Yafray, it takes all night, literally. I go to sleep and wake up to see what Blender-Clause has left on my PC.

Another little update. Now arms are finished. Materials are very simple. I will work on them later.

Another update. Now arms are complete and i started modeling a leg.

What do you think to remove the “mobile eye” and put one in the middle of the head?

Thanks.

Nice bot (or robot , I don’t know how we say that in english :expressionless: )
To my mind, the place of the eye is original.

Great model

The model is not finished yet, but near to final result.

I think the following is better:

I will appreciate any idea about how to realize eyes. Thanks in advance.

“Resists nuclear explosions, too?” Gee, I could use one of those. Can I buy it on-line?
