I am attempting to animate a whip in ver 2.42a. Basically I want to animate it from a coiled state to streched out. At the end I want to have the end of it wrap around an object.
At this point I have modelled the whip and the armature. I can manipulate/pose the whip via the bones in the manner I am wanting, but I am stuggling with the animation. I am using the auto IK button.
What is the best way to accomplish this? Am I even on the right track??
I dunno, would softbodies work? They probably would if you had a rough understand of the physics behind a whip snap. Still, though, your best bet would be a curve modifier with hooks on it that are hooked to empties.
What you’re doing should work. You might use a combination of IK and FK, i.e. leave the auto-ik on and roughly postion the whip by dragging the end bone, and also tweaking by rotating the other bones. You’re probably ??? already doing that.
