Animate Normal Map influence for use in game

Hello,

Not sure if this is possible, so I ask:
I’ve animated the normal map influence. I want to be able to change it dynamically ingame.
Unfortunately, the animation won’t play when I run the game, only in the 3d viewport.

Is this possible to do? If not, is there a workaround?
