Animate Scenes on and off

I know I can do this all in the VSE by rendering everything and then reimporting all the sequences for final cutting but I want to know if there’s a more immediate way…

I’m making a music animation where the track involves lots of strange repeats of audio sequences. I want to make certain visuals come up (animated scenes) when the appropriate audio is heard. If I have seven different animations, how do I put each animation onto a separate scene to loop indefinitely, and then keyframe scene changes to reveal specific scenes at specific times?
