Animating a bulge please help!

So I have scoured the internet trying to figure out how in the heck to animate a bulge. I never found anything and personally tried every way I can think of including the lattice modifier, shapekeys, cast modifier and everything else.

Which seems like it’d be such a simple thing with a simple modifier in order to do it. But I have yet to figure out how in the world to.

Now for those that are confused as to what exactly I’m referring to just think of something like the horror films which might include some parasites of some kind that gets underneath people skin and sort of crawls along underneath of it and looks all nasty and whatnot.

That sort of bulging moving effect is what I’m after but I just can’t figure out how to do it. Any help would be appreciated, thank you.

Even animating an Adams apple while someone is swallowing might be another good reason to learn how to do this.

The best solution that I’ve found uses dynamic paint and a displace modifier controlled by proximity to an empty :stuck_out_tongue:

Not an elegant solution, but it can get the job done… kind of.

You know it’s so ironic because I’m literally looking this up again trying to figure out how to do it and I just came to this forum to see if anyone left an answer. Find nothing new and I leave it and literally 30 seconds later I get an email notification that you just left an answer.

Just a funny bit of irony…

Your solution sounds interesting do you by chance have a specific example that you can show? If not I understand but it would just be nice to see it in action. Thank you very much.
