Animating a head using armature and shape keys

Hi,

Is it possible (I have yet to try) to animate a head model using an armature, for instance, doing a sort of rest animation, looking left and right, while also having the mouth move using shape keys to provide speech? Basically, can you play armature animation and shapes keys on the same object at the same time?

You see, I am trying to develop a lip syncing script using files generated by Papagayo, which should play the right shape key at the right time when the character says something. They should also be able to walk, run, look around at the same time, of course. Holy moly it’s going to fun to code this monster.

No problem, the mesh deformations mixes together.

Basicly, … No. The mesh object is one object that playes the shape action. The armature is another object that plays the armature action. Finally yes… both actions mix together at the same mesh ;).
