Animating along paths

I have a large model that I want to show getting deconstructed in a number of pieces in a specific sequence. It is proving hugely time consuming to select a group of objects move them up a number of units [key frame], move them across a few units [keyframe] and then down few units [key frame].

I thought a faster alternative might be to associate each of the objects to a path. However, after associated the objects to the path I cannot more when in the animatation the objects start to move. There does not seem to be a way to keyframe the start of the motion along a path?

Any ideas anyone or is there an alternative method?

many thanks

Ok so I have found out how to set the start frame for each movement along a path, but it does not seem to be a very useful way to animate because you cannot keyframe and so no frames appear in the dope sheet which makes it very difficult to manage. Am i wrong?

How are you setting the start frame. You can certainly keyframe animate the start/stop an object moving along a path. Keyframe the Follow Path constraint offset value

I adjust the START FRAME number on the left hand tool bar after selecting animate path.

There is an off set in the constraint modifier but i get a message: “cannot be keyframed, ensure that it is not locked or sampled and try removing F-modifiers”.
