animating deformations

Hi all!!!
I’ve got a question about the animation of deformations. I’ve read several tutorials, some of then focused on deformations, and others on character animation. The result is that I have a strange mixture of keyverts and shapes and several other things. But I think I still dont understand how to do it. So, is there a good tutorial on animating deformations?

I know that knowing how to animate objects, deformations must be straightforward, but I think that I get lost with some details.

Thanks in advance.

are we talking about weight paint or something else?because you can edit the mesh where it rips or goes funky with setting the weight might take a while but works for me really good under the arms ahga.

Well, we are talking about everything!!! In the future I would like to animate a guy but for the moment I’m just trying to animate a butterfly flight. I can do the flight by animating the object but I want to animate aswell the movement of the wings, and for this I need to deformate the mesh!!!

thanks

For the wings you can use straight forward character animation with armatures. Use one bone for each wing and weightpaint the whole wing to the bone. Another way is simply create a vertex group of your whole wing and assign that to the bone. Now you can use the bone to make the wing flap.
