Animating Metaballs?

Is this possible? I can’t seem to rig a metaball guy I made to an armature…
So how can I animate a metaball character?

You can’t use the armature modifier on meta objects (in 2.42a at least), so you need to parent the individual meta-parts to single bones in the armature. Select the armature, go into Pose mode, and select a bone. Shift-select the appropriate meta-object and Ctrl-P->Parent to bone.
