Animation Project with already eight songs from bands from LA

I have a question.

I started working on an animated project in 2020, just right around when the pandemic started.

I started with blender and I found this for him and that’s how I started learning. I’ve been reading this for incessantly for four years.

I reached out to commercial record labels and an independent band all from Los Angeles. All three gave me permission to use some songs in my animated film. Because it was with the understanding that I just have a story I wanna tell, and I will be making money from this.

In fact, I will be posting my animated film on Vimeo and not YouTube. YouTube likes to monetize other peoples work make money off the backs of other peoples work. And it was with the understanding I’m not gonna make any money from this. I’m literally doing this for fun because I wanna tell a story.

I’ve read this form a lot in the last four years. Also blender and animation at Reddit. I worked sometimes 18 hours a day seven days a week on my film. I shared it with one of the CEOs of the record label. But three minute clip or so. And they Thought it was very dry.

I’ve been writing stories since I was in third grade. I actually read in front of class and third fourth grade 2 short stories that I wrote. I love telling stories. But even after all my hard work, I’m not a good animator at all.

Some of the work that I’ve seen on YouTube, at the blender, sub, Reddit and here, is so very good! And I am so jealous of you. I could never come close to your good work.

I’ve learned the hard way that animation is hard work. I am asking if anybody wants to help me in my project, but you need to understand one thing.

I’ve been reading these forms for four years now I know the culture. If you’re asking somebody to do something for you for free, it’s kind of frowned upon if you try to control your project and don’t give a lot of room to other people and their ideas. It can create a lot of in-fighting and arguments.

Because I received permission to use eight commercial songs in my film, with the understanding, I’m not gonna be making any money from this, and I don’t even want to, and I need to show them the same consideration, ultimately I’m going to be in control of my film. I have a very specific idea for. I have literally every beat of every drum and every song and every scene worked out. I see my head clearly and I have had for four years.

But I’m not good at animating and I’m going to be honest. Seeing some of the work that some of you have done is so good, and it felt so discouraging to me to see that over the last four years, about 20 times and last four years I thought about giving up on this project. Some of you are so good.

I can’t give you anything monetarily wise. But when I can promise you, as you will get complete total full credit for whatever contribution you did to my film. You will not be forgotten.

I personally believe in this story. But I could really use some help please.

And because I have to do this legally, if anybody does want to sign onto this project, you will have to sign an NDA and maybe another legal document or two. I can’t promise you anything. Maybe you will get noticed by Hollywood, maybe you will get a job. If you have a blog or a website you will receive full permission To link directly to my film Online.

I think I need 3 to 5 people at minimum. But because of the legality of everything, think of me is the director and producer of the film, and the curator. No, I’m not trying to be a dictator or a jerk. But I have to navigate this legal landscape.

Anybody wanna help me? If you do, we can do a zoom or Google meet once or twice and figure it out.

I’m very passionate about this project, but it’s been stalled for the last two years. I’m just not good as an animator. But I have the story in my head that I’d really loved to tell.

If I am allowed to post this, please post in this thread and let’s talk if you’re interested.

Sorry, I use dictation on my phone. It doesn’t always pick up words accurately. I don’t know how to edit my original post. So some of the words are off I’m sorry. It’s my stupid phone.

I moved your post from “off-topic” here and changed the title to get you more viewers.

To be honest you should think more about somekind of structure for the project (and work) to tell people what this is: “some animation project with music” is not very much.

Also to post some “talking to a phone” into the off-topic category when there is a volunteer work category doesn’t look like you have read here…

But this is not to “take you down” but more to make you thing how to improve this. People will more willingly to help when the know what you may have already did before this or what you already archieved for this.

There are also some users who are “associated” with the music industry here.

You may also look at all the other post in this volunteer category and all the tips which was given to improve the posibility of finding some partners (nobody wants to know or is interested how much or long someone was working on somehing when there is nothign to see or hear  ).

For example: how did you convinced those three bands to allow you to use eight songs ?? So you do have some concept about the story ???

Also finding people to help when on the same time you are

And people…

Is not very inviting when nobody knows you or anything else about the project.

Hmm, I tried to reply, but it didn’t go through. Do I have to wait for approval?

Is it more important to tell the story, or to use the music you have permission to use?

If the music licensing is making it too difficult to tell the story, then just jettison that and get some CC0 music.

So - let’s skip past everything involving the music for the moment.

  1. What have you done so far - visually - in concept drawing, 2D digital, 3D, etc for this project?

  2. What work have you done that is not associated with this project, than you can share so that others can get a firm sense of where you are, skill and/or editing wise?
