Anime eye rigging help

I’m trying to create a very basic anime eye rig the kind which consists of a pupil that is animated by effecting the UV co-ordinates instead of rotating a textured sphere but I am having a bit of trouble.

I have added a driver to the mapping offset of my pupil texture and tied that to a empty so that the empty’s position controls the mapping offset of my texture the problem is I cannot see the effect of the driver until I render a animation.
Does anyone have any idea what might be the problem?

hummm this is interesting… are you using cycles? or BI?

I’m using whatever Blender is set to by default which is BI I think.

Okay one of the big advantages of cycles is that you can see a quick render while your working on the texturing and animation or what ever… you might give it a try… but then It might be more work getting use to using cycles than it may be worth for the moment…
