I recently posted an issue with a fluid simulation. The problem was resolved but I now have another problem. It seems I am having more trouble with the fluid sim now more than ever but whatever. My problem is that somewhere between 250 and 300 it stops showing the simulation completely. I’m lost but it probably is a simple issue that can be fixed any help is appreciated THANKS
Your Fluid Domain and Inflow objects are scaled. You can see this by pressing [n] in the 3DWindow and looking at the ‘scale’ values in the properties side panel.
Usually it’s best to keep the scale at 1; so select the object(s) and press Ctrl + a > Apply scale.
Also, I noticed that you use a relative path for your baked Fluid Domain results. “//Blender\old”
I find that it seems to cause less issues if you use an absolute path instead.
So when you define the path/file name to save the baked results to, uncheck the ‘Relative Path’ option in left side (below “Accept”) in the file manager.
(Perhaps Relative is alright if you’ve already saved the blend file, but I like to be sure).
Thanks for the reply But i am still having issues with the bake but im guessing its my problem now im going to reinstall blender 2.5 I have had a lot of trouble with the beta I think im going to stick with 2.4
I should have mentioned that I’m using the latest build on Linux 64 bit.
Maybe it’s due to some bug(s) that have been fixed since 2.56 beta??
The nice thing about fluid simulation in 2.5x is that the UI stays active
while baking. You can orbit the view around, change the draw type, etc.
The only issue I encountered was when I went to move one object to
another layer - the UI froze, but the bake process continued.
(which I could tell by opening up a system file browser to where the
bake files were being written).
One advantage of 2.49 fluid simulation is that you can key the time
parameter. I believe that still hasn’t been added back in 2.5.
I was able to bake your blend file with no problems; it actually baked
quite quickly about 5 -10 minutes or so, but the result was quite “blocky”,
so probably would need to increase the resolution quite a bit more to
get a good result.
It’s sounding as though that there is going to be a new release soon;
2.57 at the end of March (2011); so if you don’t want to bother compiling
your own or downloading a more recent build from graphicall.org and
can afford to wait; that might be worth trying as well.
