Anyway, over the last month and a half or so I was getting 50 pictures ready for a benefit dinner of the local Independent living center, where the pieces would be about the entire planned silent auction and I get the asking price and they get the rest.
I had my low end presentations, medium ends, and high end presentations out with several new ones I’ve made like Bubble Stones and Rotary Abstractions. Prices ranged from 35 to 100 dollars
I was there at the event downtown yesterday night and not only was it a fancy dinner with 500 people that we got in for free but it was also a rare opportunity to see the real Rain Man on stage.
At the end one of the organizers said I sold 37 pieces out of the 50 I took there including about 4 of the 100 dollar ones. To note that art shows can bring surprises some of the ones I thought were really good didn’t sell and the ultra simple 30 minute image Rythm of Design got about 10 bids where the final price (it had a low end presentation) went from 35 to 75 dollars.
In the end they bought the pictures mainly because the guests liked what they saw, and they were talked about by many people. The Independent living center will soon give me a check for all the ones I’ve sold, but it’s solid indication I made a net profit once again and the event where I’ve sold the most pictures so far.
That’s great, CD! Congratulations on putting your work together and out there at opportunities like that, taking the chance, and getting paid for what you love to do. I know it is always a risk in pride or hubris to put your work out for others to criticize, but it sure is rewarding (monetarily and spiritually) when others like enough to shell out their hard-earned cash!
well, I’m sure you’re expecting people to congratulate you, but considering the way you put yourself across on other threads, let me ask you this:
Do you really expect any of us to care?
Do you expect me to repeat myself?
Guys, please. CD does have a mental disability, and making fun of him for it is just as cruel as making fun of someone in a wheelchair for not being able to walk. Either way, it’s still a disability. And anyone who disagrees, doesn’t know what their talking about. CD is a perfect example of someone with Asperger’s whose parents didn’t know how to react to their child’s diagnosis. Which is perfectly OK, because not everyone in the world is clued up on how to deal with an autistic child. We can help him to get better, but we have to do it calmly and very sensitively because he can’t tell the difference between you sternly warning him and you screaming at him. So please guy, please, cut it out.
To clarify, when I first signed up here, I thought CD was the biggest pain in the rear. But after finding out about him and his disability, I know understand. I think those of you who are biased against him, so your homework on his disability before comment, please.
Don’t worry about the negative posts CD. Water off the duck’s back.
People do silly and pointless things sometimes, don’t let it get to you.
+1 Take this advise from someone who worked with autistic kids once before:D
Anyway, on topic again. Could we see some of those artworks? Obviously not available for C&C, I’m just curious.
Hopefully everyone who’s threads have been locked come here to pay their just respects to you.
Handicapped people have to learn how to live in this society like everyone else. Pampering him only makes it worse and prolongs his success.
Pushing his buttons doesn’t help either. There are better ways to go about it than being antagonistic. Not going out of one’s way to create conflict is not pampering anyone. You CAN tell someone they are responding inappropriately without being hateful and petty.
That said, I will say no more on the subject. I am speaking from personal experience, and not merely trying to start an argument.
