just curious what the words ‘van der’ translate into

i am assuming it is somthing like son-of or so.

its in relation to Mies van der Rohe (german who changed his name and added rohe via a ‘van der’)

Almost right.

It means “of the” But “der” is rather an old word that people don’t really use in common language anymore. Nowadays people would say “van de”.

i did a babblefish translation and it came up with “of of the” so i figred that it would probably be “of the” but needed to check

That makes a weird kind of sense since you could use only “der” as “of the” so translating to “of of the” is a reasonable mistake for software.
