Any future hope for web interactivity?

I know that the web plug-in has been abandoned. Does anyone know any alternatives? :-?

it has not been abandonned

No? On blender3d.org it is stated that the web plug-in is not supported anymore. I had asked a while back in these forums about this and was told that supporting the plug-in required too much effort. I assume this means that there will be no more improvements if needed. I am planning to do something interactive on a future web site using blender and I am looking for a good tool. I guess I am hesitant to use it if no one is working on it.

It more likely will be turned into a Quicktime viewer system. As quicktime is universal. So it sounds with good reason. But it is only a hunch. So yes it is still alive . But so far there is no work on it . They are still working to get the game engine fully working again.

So it may be a little while or a long while. Don’t know it might just be a month or four. But I really doubt the coders will sit around for that long. Only something can tell.

oh TON ! Where are you ooooooooooo

^v^

I wouldn’t say ‘most likely’ - that’s just one possible option for its future.

In any case, it’s on hold indefinitely until: 1. The game engine is working again and 2. Some willing coders take on the task of maintaining the web plugin. It will probably be the case that in taking on such a job, new decisions are made about what platforms to support, whether to use quicktime as a container, and so on. But until both 1 and 2 happen, it’s all quite hypothetical.

I don’t like to speak for others when I’m not involved in any stuff to do with the web plugin myself, but I would estimate that you will not see anything within the space of a month. It will probably take some time to get things running again (again on the condition that some developers actually take on the project).

Well, that’s actually what ton has proposed:)

The game engine is important to blender’s future, no one wants to forget about it. If we didn’t have to worry about stupid internet exporer, then it would be simple, as we could just keep developing the linux/netscape/mozilla plguin. But on IE we have to use activeX (not really an option) or something else. Quicktime sounds like a good bet to me.

By not supported I think they were refering to the fact that blender versions past 2.25 do not yet have game engine/plugin/publishing features. A few developers are now working on the situation, and things will hopefully be smoother when the SOLID source comes out.
