Any Mac OSX users

I was wondering how many Mac OSX users there are out there using Blender. I put a poll up on my Blender site (http://www.blenderama.com) and it seems like the Linux and Windows folks are tied for kickin’ OSX’s heinie 3.5 to 1!

So how popular is OSX for Blenders?

While Mac OS X is my platform of choice, I also use X11 and wish I had the brains to compile blender for BSD. That way the linkage to pythin might work and i would be able to use scripts/plugins (?). I recently had to use a PC to tranfer my Wings 3d models/Tex to Blender. Pain in the @ss!

Hopefully Mac OS X support will increase.

Hey all:

I’m a die-hard OS X blenderhead, and so much so that I just got the thing to compile from the latest sources today on my PowerBook G4.

I hope to contribute somehow to the community and get more working on the Mac side, but for now I’m just lurking on the developer boards trying to see what’s going on & what needs work.

That’s awesome! Is there anyway i could get the app from you? I tried this weekend (bf blender 2.26) on both my pismo and sawtooth but no luck. I’m not unix savvy enough.

So, in your compiled version, does python and VRML2 support work?

Not sure!

I know that the GUI for Python is still broken, but I can load modules like math & struct & time, which were broken before.

As for VRML 2.0, send me a sample and I’ll let you know!

great! i am an osx fan too, but sometimes i am very unhappy with blender for osx (it is still a beta-version, why?) and with all its bugs. for example, sometimes it is not possible to enter values directly (for sta and end in animation, force in actuators (game-engine) …). and there is no sound in mac-blender. and what is with “play” after rendering of animations (i must put all single frames to imovie and export a movie to see the rendered animation.
or does somebody know, how to make a stand-alone blender-game for mac osx?
are there plans for different forms in F8-buttons (interactive blender)?
many, many still not answered questions. i am waiting for answers, because i really love blender.

Hey:

A few answers for you. Blender on the Mac CAN export an animation: just make sure you have AVI Raw or AVI Jpeg as your output file format.

When entering values directly in a text button, make sure you Shift-click the box: that makes it editable as a text value. Shift-delete when in that mode will clear whatever’s there.

Sound is only for the game engine: you can’t use it on ANY platform to add sound to animations. :frowning:

I’ve played some stand-alone games ON the mac, but since 2.23 and onward the realtime engine is no longer functional until the new physics engine (ODE based) is ready.

Hope this helps a little, hang in there!
