Any suggestions for a good car to model for your first one?

Im not really sure if this is the right place to post it, so sorry if im wrong. But basically i want to model a car but was wondering if anyone knows of a car which isn’t too complex and is a good place to start?

Would also appreciate some tips too.

thanks as always!

Imho, no car is harder to model then the other, the only difference is the time it takes.

What FreeMind stated is most likely correct. Just choose a car you feel comfortable modeling and then go at it.

here is a site with some video tut on car modelling

An '80s car would be easier in my opinion. Those cars tended to be boxy, with a limited amount of curved surfaces.

What about a Fiat Panda?

Or an Opel Corsa A?

Or a Volkswagen Polo II facelift?

etc…

+1 for cars with simple lines^^^. If you want it somewhat realistic, it’s also important to model a car for which you can find lots and lots of good references and good quality blueprints / elevation pics.

I second (or third) what s12a said. or even a 70s car. Cadillac maybe. The boxier, the easier generally. And it makes perfect sense too – sleek curvy car design has progressed in parallel with 3d computer modelling ability. Back in the day, modelling was infant and the cars were simplistic

Hi, I noticed you are looking for a car to model in 3D. Haveyou started your project or are you still looking? I hope you don’t mind measking, but are you an amateur looking to better your skills or a fullyqualified 3D artist?

The reason I’m asking is I’ve just posted a thread lookingfor an enthusiastic 3D artist to help me with my own project, which may be ofsome interest to you:-

I have developed a privately funded “super-car” to be built asa kit or turn-key car. Although I have the rough prototype completed, I requirefinished photography for magazine articles and so forth.

I am looking for someone to turn original photographs, into apainted and completed car. The images MUST be an exact match to the lines of theprototype, but artistic licence is allowed for the colour scheme, textures, wheelsetc.

I understand many PC artists will conduct this type of work forfree, as they are just starting out and need something for their portfolio. Inreturn for these PC images, I will allow the artist to use his work, detailingmy car, in his portfolio, and using my company name. Furthermore I will givecredit to the artist in any magazine, internet or website articles.

If you are interested, I’ll need to see something you’ve done, plus I will need a time frame of how long this will take.

I am based in the UK, so would prefer to work with some one local.

If you are interested, please get in touch, and hopefully wecan work on this project together. Thanks.
