Any tools better at reducing than decimate?

I just got Sculptris and like it a lot, but Blender’s decimate is kind of messy at reducing it down. Is there anything better?

For better auto-retopology just simply use an external application such as 3d-coat or zbrush

decimate has some other options these days - Unsubdivide is pretty good sometimes, though often still needs some tweaking. another method would be to remove doubles on your whole mesh with a fairly high threshold
