anyone else haveing problems getting work at the moment ?

ok so last week i was takeing a look at where i am now and where i was a few years ago when i was still doing the whole school thing and analiseing my skillset and it came to me that there was no reason why i should not be getting work right now, i can design almost anything 3d work, music, web design video ect. and not at a basic level ether, but enuff of my moaning and on to the question i want to ask

dose anyone feel as if the creative industries seem to be stagnating ?

Do you read/listen to the news, there’s a global recession.

I understand where you are coming from, and I don’t want to troll or anything.

Finding work sucks. I was part of a start up MO-Graph advertising company. We did OK at the beginning because we had some large clients, but to stay in business it seems like you need to spend full-time selling yourself to score full-time work. It’s one of the most important part of freelance – networking

aside –
I do make this statement hoping not to offend – I realize this is a trivial post on BlenderArtists, but I would really suggest spell check and a grammar proofread before posting – not so much here, but if you have correspondence with a customer and it is poorly written, you are likely to be delegated to second choice – no matter your ability. Little things make a big difference. You have to look professional in all the details.

Good luck with everything. Post some links to your work – you never know if someone here will have some opportunity here.

menace45, do you have a website or a portfolio?
I could need some additional partners for working with clients

I would second that.

Our company is currently seeking fill several positions and it has astounded me how many people have bad grammar, misspelled words and even use “leet” terms in their cover letters and resumes (lol, u, smileys, etc). A poorly written resume/ cover letter shows the potential employer that you lack either education, attention to detail, work ethic, or that you really dont want the gig that badly.

Also, it amazes me how many people do not research the postion or company they are applying for. We get cover letters addressed to other companies, individuals who say their objective is to work for another company or do something not related to the job. Remember, when you are trying to get a gig/ client, they are the ONLY client in the world you want to work with. Any hint at apathy will not make you an attractive hire. If you really dont care about getting the gig, what will the quality of your work be.

The internet does make it easier to search for openings, but I think it also makes it too easy to casually apply for the job. It still needs to be approached as it was done in the old days when you used to have to print resume and physically walk into buildings - dressed nice, looking the part and walking the walk. Your “digital” image (including social networking images and messages) needs to be clean, neat and professional. If hired you will represent the client, from the quality of your work to your interactions with others on their behalf.

When seeking work, your cover letter should introduce yourself as well as show that you have a grasp of the position/ product you are applying for and that you have the skills to do the gig. It should also demonstrate you are educated on whom you are wanting to work for. (i.e. companies future/ past projects, ad campaigns, company montra etc.) Make it personal and professional but keep it short and sweet.

Networking is key (friends to help friends), as well as having a well thought out and designed (and updated) portfolio/ demo reel, solid resume and smart website. In this age, these are a must. There are little things that go along with that, make sure your website/ portfolio/ reel are mobile friendly (i.e. apple devices do not like flash). Make sure you resume is concise, easy to read and makes you look good and is linkable (email, website, etc). A clean cover letter goes a long way too. Less is more, you have 2 paragraphs (10-20 sentences) to show off who you are and why you deserve the gig.

Of the several hundred resumes we receive, there are less than 15% that even get a second look due to lack of the above criteria. That means if you are ahead of the curve on just these things, it would put you in the top 10-15% of the running for a gig right off the bat.

Work is hard to find, but there is work out there. Finding a gig is in itself a fulltime gig and should be approached as such. Have friends (who will be honest with you) review your work, resume, etc. Until you land a gig, your job is to get a job.

I don’t know if this helps, but best of luck to you.

Hi guys i have question for you and i know this is going to sound crazy but there is Naruto mmorpg game it’s still in progres and they need 3D and 2D desingers that know’s on blender and Unity 3D so is anybody interesting?

How’s that “Change” workin’ out for everyone?

over 8% Admitted Unemployment(And a real U-6 Unemployment Rate of 14.5%)
and over $15.75 Trillion In Debt.

Maybe When the Democrats Took Over both houses of Congress in 2006
they should have passed the legislation to reign in Fannie May And Freddy Mac
like Bush and McCain tried to do, instead they let the economy crash and Burn,
like the economic terrorists they are. (never let a good crisis go to waste)

first thing that goes when money is scarce is creativity-related jobs and the arts…

Though I may or may not agree with you, please dont’ post flamers. It doesn’t help your cause. I hate Apple because everytime I have trouble with my computer, invariably an Apple drone will rub my nose in their perfect little Apple product. Don’t kick a man when he’s down.

In a similar fashion, the economy is bad right now, no need to rub anyone’s nose in it.

Please resume discussion of finding work…

i’m unemployed too, i’m not rubbing anyones nose in anything.

I am sorry to hear that. Good luck to you as well.
