Anyone here doing iAnimate / Animation Mentor?

Hi all,

It’s been a while since I posted on the forums. Just finished with my architecture degree, and right out got accepted at iAnimate.

Short and sweet, anyone doing iA /AM here using Blender? I’m having to learn Maya due to the lack of support for Blender, and it’s frustrating as hell.

I did AM while I could afford it. Jason Ryan’s website has a few good videos on getting started… that’s probably the best place to jump off from.

if you want my opinion, just do the course with Maya. Leaning viewport navigation, keying and timeline workflow, graph editor is nothing compared to having to work on your own character (or use 3rd party ones). Just focus on animation.
The characters at iAnimate are some of the most appealing and extremely well done I have ever seen. Your work will suffer otherwise.

My concerns exactly; hence why I’m going through teaching myself Maya. Already struggled in the first week assignment (it was a simple ball bounce!).

The rigs are totally appealing, agreed.

There’s a thriving Maya community over at 3dBuzz, with free training, courses and excellent forums.

That will fast-track your Maya training and smooth out that learning curve.

I was an AM student up till class 4. Although my main app is still maya, I’m trying to implement my tricks into Blender. I will eventually succeed  So will you, going from Blender to maya, the graph editor is a bit more sophisticated in maya, but not insanely different. You’ll get the hang of it. Concentrate on the 12 principles…

Good Luck
