anyone know a good word processor or typing software like microsoft word?

my harddrive on this computer doesnt have microsoft word, or word works or anything, and I have to type stuff for school and i’ve been using WordPad for that and it hasnt really been working out well because you can’t even adjust the spacing. Anyone have ideas?

I use WordPerfect
works pretty good, but I don’t really remember where I got it from

Have you both been living under a rock?

yeah, if you are looking for a full microsoft office like suite of programs, go with openoffice.org, it is nearly a clone, so it doesn’t take any time to get started.

But if you want something that is lightweight, fast, and portable, try abiword. it can open anything and has a lot of options. Its a much smaller download. if abiword has what you need you can get it easier.

Either one is highly respected and is just right for about anyone.

Or just get an MS Office XP Pro torrent off torrentz.com (assuming you use XP) or get it through Limewire.

EDIT: And Jeepster I loathe WordPerfect just for the record. It’s a different type of file and no one uses it so only you can work on your document at home.

Yea, seriously.

Have you both been living under a rock?

…maybe…

FadieZ, you might want to remove that.

Another vote for OpenOffice

Abiword is also great, and much lighter than openoffice, especially if you only need a word processor.

FadieZ: Hurray for warez kiddies who think investing work in something is clicking on links to porn sites so that the website they’re on will cough up a serial number generator.

Yeah, OpenOffice rules. And it’s less bloaty than MS Office. Seriously, the entire OpenOffice suite weighs about as much in hard drive space as one single copy of Microsoft Word.

I like abiword, it is on almost every OS known to man, Free…

Small and lightweight , yet powerful

Open office is nice too, but I cant stand the load times, and the ammount of RAM it sucks.OOo has a somewhat “Clunky” feel to it as well.

for everyday , industrial use, I use Abiword, it loads faster than microsoft word on my system.

please excuse my poor english skills

In fact, I got rid of MS Office a few years back and only use Open Office now.

Im using OpenOffice. The best in his class.

OpenOffice.org user since it was Star Office. Abi Word is nice, but the last time I checked it couldn’t do math formula. Of course, that was years ago, so it may have changed.

OpenOffice is backed by Sun Microsystems so it is easily “best in class.”

OpenOffice or Abiword.
Your choice.
Both have a portable version so that’s a plus.

definatly open office, I recently did a powerpoint OO Impress presentation on open source software. A very capable and versatile suite of tools to replace nearly every microsoft office type tool.
definatly open office
