AO baking nessessary?? also, still need node setup help


I’ve seen people texturing models and using a AO texture. I’m probably dense but is there any need for a AO pass if cycles will do that anyway when it renders? I’m curious!

Also, sorry to beat the horse but…

I still need a node setup for texture painting chipped paint/rust/grunge ect.


base layer metal (shiny)
layer above would be primer
layer above that is paint (with bump)
Then a grunge layer

I have no idea how to lay this out in blender nodes. Any help would be appreciated.
