Hi there,
I hope this is the right section for this question. First off I’m new to Blender so please be gentle with me
I followed this tutorial
to create an outline of the schools crest - added the image to the background and used curves to create an outline. I then extruded the shape that was created - so far so good.
Now all I want to do is apply the image that I used as the template (background) to the shape that I have created. See attached image for what I’m getting.
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.
Set up a side-by-side window split of a 3d window and the UV editor. Select your object. Go into face-select mode (F) and then edit mode from there (TAB). Select all the top faces; select->adjacent flat faces is nice for this. Tab back into face mode. Go into an overhead ortho view. Hit U, and hit “Project from View, Bounds”. Then go into the UV window, select everything, and scale/grab the outline to match your imagefile.
Many thanks for the quick response. Sorry but I’m lost already Only been using Blender for two days now, probably should have started with something easier.
See attached image for my setup. When I press F for Face mode nothing happens.

you have to unwrap it first. see http://mediawiki.blender.org/index.php/Manual/UV_Unwrapping_And_Texturing
Um, that’s strange. . . . Is the object you’re working with a mesh or an extruded curve of some sort? Face select dosn’t work on curves, so I’m not sure how you’re supposed to texture them properly. But you can convert the curve to a mesh object and see if that helps . . . there’s a convert type option in the object mode menu.
Might want to make a shift-d duplicate of it and throw that on a different layer (with M), or a backup of the file, first, in case you want to work with the curve more at somepoint :).
ETA: Also, you should be able to select face-select from the dropdown menu if you have an applicable object selected.
Roger: I think his problem at the moment is getting to the unwrap menu :D.
I just followed the instructions in the tutorial listed in my first post:
- added a Bezier curve
- Converted it to Poly
- Then selected and moved the vertices and added more
- Then I converted them back into Bezier curves. All I’m looking to do is turn the 2D logo into a 3D one. Is there any other ways or should I stick at this one?
