applying image textures having a certain problem.

when I do a plank it works fine. but if I try a post and I change my y and x axis use ctr scale then apply my image, it’s all warped. it doesn’t matter what method i use to unwrap when it worked fine for my planks. is Blender somehow remembering my history of last texture on a mesh?

Hi, can you share a screenshot of the problem next to the correct behavior? Also, are you using Blender Internal Render or Cycles, and what are your settings there?

same texture. it’s uv unwrapped correctly but still smeared.

The Texture Coordinate node is set to “Generated”, not “UV”. Correct that and don’t forget to switch the mapping from “Box” to “Flat” (red box in the following screenshot).

Your UV unwrap is still not ideal, though. Seems to be rotated by 90 degrees:

  1. Rotate all UV islands by 90 degrees.
  2. Scale the UV islands up along the x-axis and down along the y-axis.

My guess is that you scaled/rotated the mesh in Object Mode, UV unwrapped it and then applied the scale and rotation. That’s wrong: First apply scale/rotation, then UV unwrap. Or just scale/rotate in Edit Mode and save the hassle.

thank you very much

I am thinking this whole time this may be messing up my textures. when I average my islands then pack them my uv do a 90 degree rotation and go to the left boarder of the uv grid.

I normal change my height, width , length in the N panel under dimension dimension, then I apply the ctr A for scale then I marks seams and finishing with using the A key to highlight whole mesh followed by the unwrap.

the creating the new UV image and enter texture size doesn’t seem to work neither does project from view because it doesn’t scale all the faces the same way.

I have been practicing with the uv grid and scaling that up or down, but there has to be a reason on why my textures seem so scaled in or out. I guess called pixel tessellation?

should I just do my edit in edit mode instead of object and then followed by a ctrl A? I know blender wont let you mark seams if I didn’t clear the scale. I am then using the ctrl T for node wrangler to set up my uv coordinates and it’s in flat instead of box

maybe tonight when I get home I will try edit mode for my dimensions

also, every time I average my islands and pack them. my uv always does a 90 degree turn, and goes to the left hand corner of my uv grid. it doesn’t stay where its at. so I think this is showing a issue here. should do it for you in this file of the 2 planks if you try to unwrap it…
