Applying more than one texture

Hi, I’m brand new to Blender (and to these forums). Last night I was trying to texturize my model, and yes, I was able to apply a texture to the whole thing. However, I want to apply various textures to parts of the model.

For example, I’m making a spaceship, and want to make the cockpit a different texture than the rest of the fuselage. I tried selecting the vertices of the cockpit, but I was at a loss on how to apply a texture to just that part.

I guess the question is, how do I select parts of my model to apply a seperate texture to? Is there something else I need to do? Thanks!

Are multiple materials what you are looking for: http://www.blender3d.org/documentation/htmlI/x4448.html?

Either that (and then you’ll have to plan your modelling for good resulte, especially if you are using subsurf) or UVmapping. You’ll find that too in the official doc or in my tutorial. Hopefully the changes in the interface won’t put you at more of a lost.
