Update (added coat on railing, adjusted wood textures):
Thoughts?
Hi,
one remark on my part.
If you observe “top” architectural" renders/photos (for example, take the 3 pictures on cg cookie’s contest page), you wil notice that the camera is often not rotated. It’s like x:90° and Y:0° if you see what I mean… I’m not sure about the reasons, maybe because it’s easier to read volumes, perspective and dimensions this way.
I think it would help in your case.
Thanks for the reply!
I tried an alter angle (see setup below) but i’m not sure if I can go for a more straight on angle or not… What do you think, worse or better?
Angle Setup:
Thanks,
Try resetting the rotation of the camera. Select it and press ALT + R (I think…) and that should then reset it. Then rotate it 90 degrees along the x axis. then reposition it, move along the z so its pretty much sits in the middle of your scene from top to bottom. You can rotate along the z to spin it, but don’t rotate along the Z or Y, keep it looking straight on.
I had also been taught to always take the image from roughly eye level of a viewer to a room. Currently the viewer is either really tall or floating going by that rule. Obviously if you are trying to highlight features or cause drama you go against this rule.
Thanks for the replies!
I’m not sure my scene is setup for doing a straight on angle. I have done two 50% renders one from a straight on perspective by the stairs, and one from the other side. I also lowered down the camera from the original perspective slightly to get closer to a human perspective, but it’s also possible the “human or viewer” is standing on another such platform on the other side of the room.
I think if I had set my scene up originally to be like that with enough room for the camera to backup and fit all together right, it may have worked out. What are your thoughts? I’m not sure it’s worth adjusting the whole scene to that?

Thanks again,
I can only see the final image, but the angle is looking alot better on that one than before. Be good to see the other images though.

Thanks for the reply,
Hmm, I don’t know why they don’t show up. Here are links to both of them:

I personally like the non-direct angle better, but one of others might be able to be altered to work.
Thanks!
I think the scale is still a bit off, but it’s looking better Insert a human model into that room and put him next to everything, like the briefcase, the coffee cup, chair, outlets, etc. The outlets especially are too big, but you’ll find more issues I’m sure. I don’t usually make anything to scale either(although I probably should), but it helps to see someone standing in there to get an overall feel of how badly things are off. Keep it up!
Thanks for the reply,
I stuck two character images in, and scaled them to be roughly correct. I did adjust the outlets sizes, however i’m not completely sure what else to change. Any thoughts?

Do you have any images?

I like these two close ups more for some reason, especially the view looking directly at the stair. Its probably because the scene looks more focused and my eye is not drawn all over the place because there is a lot going on. For me it works more that the zoomed out view, it doesn’t show too much and just shows enough to be interesting. It lacks some outside view through a window or door in this view but that could be modified. With this view the details are far more important than before because everything is closer like the brown wood texture has some issues and the tile floor might need changed out.The models might need more detail too if you choose to do this one.
For some reason i can’t see any of the images in this post on my home laptop so i will have to wait until i get to work to see your updated image above my post.
