Archviz livingroom cycle

Hi all,

This Saturday I had a blender meet up in London with the great Andrew Price

And it gave me the motivation to post something here

Therefore, I did an interior this week, first post here so be gentle please

Happy for all critics, I did the sofa took some assets from chocofur and change some material!

I tried to do an eevee render, but couldn’t do anything good. (I know it’s not made for realism, but tried to follow some tutorial and coudn’t get anything like them)

You’re randerr succs!

So far so good about that gentle part, pardon my humor.

So, now about the first picture, it seems very
flat in matter of lighting, I mea, even the places under the furniture have no shadow. Where are your light sources and how strong did you make them? And especially, how many do you have?
The models look stunning, except a few things, which confuse me a bit.
First, the arm rests of the sofa, it is all soft and comfy and then you give it hard wooden arm rests. Seems to me, that this is destroying the idea of a soft sofa a bit.
Second the legs of the table. It feels a bit weird, that they are outside of the real table size, if you know what I mean. It looks a bit pumped, maybe try it out to push them a bit back under the table and get them in one line with the edges?
Idk, guess that is a matter of taste actually.
Oh, and the pillow on the yellow chair looks like it could fall over any second, to me. Also the handles on the cups seem a bit big, but that could be just me as well.

But back to the lighting.
To me it seems like you are using like at least one big light source to light up the whole scene, in addition to the lamps you that are to be seen in the second render. Anyway, I am just missing shadows a lot in your renders.

And speaking of Andrew Price, I highly recommend his video on photorealistic lighting:

The second render is suffering with about the same problems, also you could try and use some field of depth effect, since the camera of blender is recording, as if it could have every single thing in focus, which in the real world is not possible.

But at all this is a truly good render so far, I could not have done the models and the texturing at the level you did there, so probs for that!

Keep going, I would love to see some further developed versions of this render!

Hi Deven, thanks for the comment, I will work on my lighting. I think the main issue is not enough sample and noise cancel. I just use an hdri for the lighting

I will rewatch the video. Thanks

Ah, so I believe you have no wall/plane behind the camera, so the hdri is shining directly at the interior, which wouldn’t be happening in real life, right?

Good luck with your rework and I’ll be happy to see the progress you make.

Thanks Deven,

It’s quite wierd as I already was set as Filmic (default on 2.8 I think) And I had a wall closed up (with a window) behind the camera, I close completly the room. Had a higher samples.

I also noticed I had some weird lamps because I was trying to make it for eevee first but got rid of it.

I think there is still something missing, at least there is more shadows. Let me know what you think

hello there ! first of im not an expert but i think ur drawer is way too tall
 and to glossy too

Hello again, sorry for being absent for so long, the improvements are definitely stunning!
Just a few more things. There is still a bit of noise at some glossy parts, especially to be seen at the legs of the chairs, but also at the nose of the pig. Maybe try to use the denoiser, or go with more samples.
Next up, I party agree with Andre, the reflection in the wood of the drawers is a little bit too strong, so it feels more like glass, than a glossy finish of wood. If you use a mix of Glossy and Diffuse Shader I would try to set the color of the glossy shader a little bit darker. If that won’t suite your idea of how it should look maybe play a bit with the mix shader more into the direction of diffuse.

Next the curtains, could it be that you have experiences some issues with the faces? And maybe also with the self collision of the cloth? It could be just due to the “low” resolution and the bit of noise, that it seems to me that way.

Also, it could be just me, but the scene looks extremely bright to me.

This is just an idea darker, just take a look at it, compare and see what you think, maybe I am wrong with my opinion.

I agree
imagine yourself using the top drawer on the level of the top your head
not very convenient

An think a bit about the shot’s composition - right now it seems a bit accidental.

That’s what was bugging me  I couldn’t put my finger on it.

Otherwise it’s pretty good I like it.
