This has the makings of a great Cloth sim tool / Soft body destruction tool for metal, Plastics etc etc. Adding this to Blender could be awesome. Mixed with the shrink wrap modifier that could be really handy, Hope devs take a look. Ive already started adding it to my Opengl realtime engine for fun
You have to watch this video to really get how powerful this could be in many many ways for blender (may take 30-40 mins to process so just be patient).
Few examples from the GArments pack also on the page:
Well if you have success in implementing it in your own engine could you maybe take a look at implementing it in Blender on your own? The Blender devs are already pretty busy as they are.
I don’t think the license is compatible with Blender. Not unless you want to see license notice about it every time Blender launches. And it you make something with it you will have to include an acknowledgement of such use in the credits. So make an animation with Blender and you will be required to thank these guys if you use the cloth sim. Not only would this be a pain, but these might count as unallowed “further restrictions” under our GPL license.
Once ive got it working in my engine ill take a look, But ive never played with Blenders code. Implementing this fully would need the devs as would cover a huge amount (brand new cloth sim, soft body deformations mixed with physics engine etc etc (would make a lovely destruction tool for car crash’s for example)), But i have no problems helping out.
@Harley, Yep thought it maybe an issue. E-mail sent to the Guys about 2 hours ago to get some clarification, Lots of PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE in the mail. Just have to wait and see. Meantime im still adding to my realtime engine for testing. If if the license can’t be worked out i wouldn’t mind if need be licensing the code for my realtime engine. Lets hope that’s not necessary.
As I interpret the license you’re not allowed to use code for commercial work at all. And you’re only allowed to use it for educational/non-profit work as long as the four conditions are met. It’s definitely not GPL compatible.
