Are textures ever real?

Hello,

Is it possible to add a texture from an image that becomes real geometry, not just rendered? The reason I ask is because I often use blender to work on 3D models that eventually become real objects using a CNC router. If I can incorporate textures, like tree bark for example, from raster images, that would be a big help.

Thanks,

Denver

Like as in a displacement map? Here is a good starting point to learn about those.

displacement would do the trick, but bear in mind that the method Atempralskill showed is outdated, the best way to do it is through a Displace Modifier, rather than mapping an image to “Disp”

yes, thanks wysiwyg, I was thinking of that page but in my quick search and grab I failed to make sure I had the right one. the one I showed is from pre 2.5 blender.

Yes. The displace modifier is what I needed.

Thanks,

no problem and welcome to blenderartists!
