Are there any easy way of texturing?

I got used to the very easy and intuitive way of mapping and texturing in the commercial applications out there, and now I can’t get into my head why Blender has to do this the hard way.

Are there any plugins that allow me to see my textures in 3D viewport? I tried GLSL but it doesn’t show up correctly in 3D view.

In what way ? Have you uv unwrapped it cleanly ?

Wooow, every other application requires you to unwrap your model in some way (intuitive in its own way) and put up a material.
Blender also requires you to unwrap and add up a material (I found it to be very easy, though, i’ve worked a bit with 3dsmax) and with new 2.63 release, unwrap tools are getting better day by day.

Thanks for the responses. I figured it out myself (and with some tutorials):

  1. Make a new window, make it an UV/Image Editor, Image -> Open Image and pick a random image.

  2. Assign Material in Material editor/window and scroll down to Options and check “Face Textures”.
