Armature and Physics engine to simulate cloth?

I once found a fantastic demonstration illustrating how to build an armature into a mesh (piece of cloth), then have the armature respond using the physics engine and then ultimately deform the mesh. using an array of several bone chains they made a very nice real time soft body deformation without having to run the full cloth simulation. I’m having a terrible time finding that original video and am wondering if anyone can point me toward any examples of how to set up an armature to respond to the physics engine.
