Armature appended but want parent

Hello everyone, I have created a character with an armature skeleton. I am trying to use the same armature (skeleton) for different characters in another blend file. I have appended the armature object to this blend file but when I try to parent it to my character, blender stops responding and closes. I can not get it to parent to any object without it crashing.

I have determined that it has something to do with the armature itself.

Is it anything I can do or should do to the armature that will make it usable in my situation without having to remake the skeleton from scratch?

I never had that problem myself. Maybe if you could upload the blend and post a link we could find a proper solution.

How do I upload the blend file?

if you don’t have some place on the wen to upload it to, you can just e-mail it to me.

Thanks theeth, but I found out that I can use the armature as long as when I parent it, I allow Blender to create vertex groups from closest bone.

What I was doing was creating a new Character by appending the body parts of an existing character model and reshaping them. When I would append the body parts the vertex groups would append as well and then when I would append the armature and try to parent it to the newly shaped and edited mesh, Blender would not allow me to when I would select “Don’t Create Groups”. It would not even allow me to when I would delete all vertex groups from the newly edited mesh before trying to parent.
It would only work if I deleted all vertex groups from the newly edited mesh and then select “Create From Closest Bone” when parenting. Then I have to delete groups that Blender created for Knull bones and IK solvers and then adjust groups that need it.

I don’t understand why it would not let me parent the armature to the mesh (with no groups) by selecting “Don’t Create Groups” but at least I am able to use the armature.

Thanks again for your offer to help and If you or anyone else can share helpful information on this subject please do so.
