I’m trying to rig a character (a bit of a noob, never really done rigging before) and am having some problems with bones deforming vertices which I don’t want them to. I have scaled all envelopes so they don’t affect anything, so all bones (should) only deform defined groups. Yet some vertices on the body keep being deformed by the arm bone - anyone got any ideas why?
Also, my model isn’t in the perfect rigging pose, and I’m finding it really difficult to seperate the under-arm vertices from the body vertices in order to group them - is there any easy way to do this?
Your link doesn’t work, try using this free host operated by one of the members here : http://uploader.polorix.net/
You also mentioned “envelopes” and “groups”. For best control, you’re better off turning off envelopes in the armature modifier and using only Vert Groups.
More than likely you have more than one bone(vertex group) influencing an area of the mesh. You’ll probably have to use a combinatoin of the weight-painting and vertex group tools. If you select the mesh and switch to weight paint (CTR-TAB) (with the the armature in Pose mode), then press SH-LMB it will show you the vertex group(s) that are associated with the verts under the mouse pointer.
Take a look at the “Intro To Character Animation” tutorial by Ryan on the Wiki (see link in my signature).
@ Mike_S : the downloaded file isn’t a blend . It’s a html redirect page with “The page you are attempting to access uses dynamic functionality that has not been enabled for this hosting account.” written on it . For both links … @themightyquinn : maybe you should use the uploader Mike_S linked to ?
OK i think I know what happened… i downloaded the html file (which still had the extension .blend, leading me to think it was actually the blend file) and it replaced the ACTUAL, real blend file on my desktop. I then uploaded the file to the new server. :spin:
@ Mike_S : duh sorry about that :spin: didn’t notice your last sentence . It’s a good thing to read the posts before posting …It’s a good thing to read the posts before posting …It’s a good thing to read the posts before posting …:spin:
@ themightyquinn : Nope still the same problem …
LOL nine posts and still no closer to a solution .
