This was my submission into the art festival. It’s a heavily edited and modified extract from the pyschadelic sequence of my wip short, 2001 : A Short Odyessy. I say heavily modified because I don’t want to reveal too much until the whole thing is more complete… These sequences took a few days to setup (in total) and about 40-50 hours of rendering time in total.
Sorry to WMV it, it was the only way to get the file small enough without losing too much quality…I wanted to have the Blue Danube playing in the background but it double the filesize. Anyway, here it is…3 minuts long, 7mb : http://rhysy.plexersoft.com/PyschoTrailerMovie.WMV
Grrr, the blue tableau scene with the fire falling down their sides was by far the best scene and it was way too short! Rest is like tye die art and you can get that with Winamp in Av addons that are better and even beat with the music.
The tableau scene is where you should start. It’s original and awesome looking. Go from there and make variations, make this a 3d experience!
Ooops…
First scene is terragen with lsd plugin, the rest is Blender with very easy VideoMach post processing.
Tableau ? I assume you mean the thing at ~1:02 - ~1:07 ? Actually that forms the basis of most of the animation (there are some more, less kalaedascopic (sp ?) renders in the full version but I don’t want to show everything right away). I didn’t render a very long sequence for that because I got sick of waiting 20 hours for 8 seconds of animation. In fact the post-processed scenes are largely to save tens (or more) hours of rendering time whilst still making really weird, interesting stuff, like in the end sequence to the film 2001.
My personal favourite shown here is the thing from ~1:34 onwards, I think it looks more dynamic than the rest and it’s 3D structure is more obvious, but I guess everyone has different tastes even in weird pyschadelic stuff !
I don’t have Winamp but I thought about using Windows Media Player visulizations, then decided that would be a cheat solution and I wouldn’t want it to beat to the music anyway.
ANYWAY, did I create something interesting ? Or is it just too werid/badly compressed to make sense of ? Comments and thoughts please !
It’s not that its weird or different, its more a case that this sort of calidascope imaging has been seen too many times already, and as someone mentioned, winamp, and windows media player do this sort of thing already. 40 to 50 hours of rendering, Why?
I downloaded this 7meg file thinking of seeing something new, and was disapointed.
Thanks for your honest opinion ! That’s much more useful than no-one saying anything, I’d MUCH rather have negative feedback than none at all.
That said, I have to disagree with you .You say this kalidascope thing has been seen before, but I’ve never seen anything that resembles it (except music visualizations, but they are 2D). If I had seen kalidoscopic stuff everywhere, I would have done something totally different, otherwise what would be the point ? So I guess I’ve made something weird and different RELATIVE to what I’ve seen personally, but pretty ordinary compared to everyone else’s standards. Damn !!
40-50 hours rendering mostly comes from 4 sequences :
1:02 - 1:07
Approximately 300 dupliframed procedureal-mapped planes
1:13 ~ 1:20
About 400 dupliframe procedural planes, the original sequence (not shown) took about 20 hours to render for 8 seconds before being kalidascoped !
1:34 - 2:00
~75 dupliframed cubes with the mandelbrot plugin
Thanks basse !
Way to pyschadelic eh ? (evil Mr Burns voice) Excellent… (/evil voice)
That’s exactly the look I wanted, so thanks !
Next year I shall try and enter the whole movie - that ought to at least make sense.
