Asset library basics question

I’m working in a complex production scene. During the process I’d like to save some group assets in geo nodes. Is there a way to save them as assets without creating a clean blender file, copying it in there, and saving it to the specified folder in prefs?

There’s the duplicate assets operator for brush assets, though it seems those can not be edited afterwards for some reason. Not sure if this would work for group assets.

Anyone know what the current best practices are? Watched some youtube videos and looked at the manual, but saving a clean file every time I want to save a node group seems like a tedium.
