I just updated to the latest ATI driver and it seems ATI have finally nailed all the nasty problems that seemed to affect blender. Mine is an ATI raedon 3200 HD on tx2500 tablet, and the change in perfomance and compatibility with blender was good.
So no more having to use old drivers (in the process loose fancy functionality).
I have one tip from my slow ATI days for any1 who cant update/downgrade their card, The Outliner. For some reason beyond me the outliner can select objects without running into the
gl_select
problem fancy that!
I know not every ATI blender head has this problem, but for those who do, there’s hope!
That’s what I said. I purchased an ATI HD4850 and it works pretty well in Blender. It slows a ton with a high res background image when rotoscoping, but otherwise, it’s fine. In Ubuntu, it works perfect. My 8800GT still offered a better experience.
I do have an issue with XP. I can only use the 8.6 drivers as any other driver causes 2D slowdown. I’ve tried every other one and they all make my computer slow. There are others on the web that have the same issue and there is no resolution as of yet.
rotoscoping should be improoved, try and go to your catalist controll center and changing the filter settings for textures. May or may not work, can anyone with Nvidia try and see if they get the same problem?
i.e. load a gigantic(>=1024x700) image as your background (60%opacity) slap on high res mesh(doesnt have to be >0.8m verts) and go into edit mode pan/grab and see how bad it gets?
nway I think is more to do with memory than an actual bug. but i’d like to know the results.
I only seem to experience very minor misses in time.
The funny thing is that Blender is okay with a high res image (> 3000 x 3000) until I zoom in. The more that I zoom in, the slower it gets. But this only occurs in Windows. In Linux, it’s smooth over my complete zoom range.
