Attaching Emitters to particles

This is a strange question that I can’t find an answer to:

I have a scene where an icosphere is emitting a bunch of Space Ships (obviously parented to the emitter) in a direction. Can I get each space ship, that is emitted, to somehow emitt a lazer?

As the Space Ships fly across a plane, I need them to shoot lazers from a certain part of their gun turrets. Now, is there a way to make an emitter on the emitted space ships that can shoot the lazers?

Thanks,
-Thor

I assume you have used the duplivert feature for the particles on the emitter and the original spaceship is the child of the emitter.

You can’t do that with particles alone… but you could model a laser burst and animate it with vertex keys inside the original space ship mesh with a part that is just a line of verts and has a halo material for example. then all the duplicated meshes will have that laser burst too because they are the same mesh.

Hey, this looks like it could work. Let me give it a spin!

You could also try creating for the ship, a child spot-lamp with a really narrow angle (1 degree or so) and using halo for volumetrics and a high distance - then IPO the energy from 0 to 1.2 or whatever over a couple of frames then back down a few frames later.
