when i import movie into 2.53’s video editing timeline and try to play the movie (alt+a in the viewer window) It makes a horrible stuttering sound instead of playing the audio.
I have the 2.53 package from the blender website installed on ubuntu 10.4.
any suggestions on how i might fix this would be much appreciated.

p.s. I used to have audio working in 2.48 and jaunty but i think i had to compile blender and I can’t find my old walkthrough notes on how i did that.
I have found and reported that audio support in Blender 2.5 is piss poor.
My bug was discounted as not relevant and closed by the developer. I guess that is one way to fix bugs, just close them.
The best advice I can give you, if you want to get your work done, is to just use another application for video editing. Or, just use Blender for video and mux the sound in from another app.
THis may be a playback rate problem in that running blender’s vse and playing back the vid is just too computer intensive. Atleast that’s what it sounds like when I try compositing audio in it. I find that if close windows that show the video and just play the audio, then it plays back fast enough to edit and scrub. However, once you start adding audio layers, there doesn’t seem to be a good way to speed the vid back up even by clicking the visible (eye) off for the audio layers. Mix down was also removed so its a bit difficult to shrink the computations too.
Bottom line is that for all practical purposes we have to edit the audio and video separately. The advance seems to be that you can edit both in the vse now, just not at the same time.
