Auto Keying Area Light

Using Blender 3.2.0

I have an area light whose direction can be controlled by pressing SHIFT+T. What I wanted to do was use auto keying to save the movement so it can be used in an animation but doesn’t look like the key frames are saved for this scenario. Is there any way to achieve this?

I have tried “track to object” but it does not achieve the desired result (mainly because the light gets rotated when using track to)

What I want to achieve is shown in the gif below:

Try double R instead of Shift T

Thank you for the suggestion Nanomanpro

I forgot to mention I already tried that, it successfully records the keyframes, however it doesn’t preserve the orientation of the light and the controls are reversed making it difficult to control

Below is the example of using double R:

Looks like Damped Track Constraint might work for you.
Damped Track .blend (336.5 KB)

Not sure if I understood, if I move the empty it does the same thing as using double R

Double R causes "opposite’ rotations, and this solution works very much like Shift T

This was my attempt with the Damped Track .blend file
Blender_ F__Damped Track .blend 2022-06-26 09-11-58
The light is stuck in the center, moving anything else has the same effect as double R (which I’m trying to avoid)

Because in this case you should be moving the empty object, not the light itself.

Yes it looks to be working now thank you very much
