Hi.
When selecting vertices with lasso, box, etc. I select the hidden ones even with xRay deactivated. I want to select only the visible ones but I don’t know how… any idea?
Which Blender vers? works for me in 4.2
Me too. I selected vertices in view “q1” (the first picture)
Then I orbit a bit and I see the hidden ones selected in image “q2” (second one)
I notice if I unhide the head it doesn’t happen… but I think It shouldn’t happen in my case if the vertices are not seen
Have you checked the normals to see if they are facing the right way?
What you mean exactly by “hidden vertices”? Geometry which occluded by other meshes are NOT prevent the selection to happen.
XRay only works “locally” for a mesh which in edit mode and nothing else.
Your case looks like this:
If i would try to select some vertices by drag box marked green, all vertices which are “behind” the blue sphere and cover the area marked red - they will be selected for sure, despite the fact you cant see them.
Im not sure blender are capable of exclude occluded geometry from selection.
But here’s the key point: they can be seen. They are not hidden, they’re just blocked from your sight based on the viewing angle. “cannot see it at the moment because another object in the way” and “hidden in the viewport” are two different things.
Yes, probably you’re right and I might improve my English. “Hidden” is not an appropiate term for what I meant.
Not sure why it’s happening but in another computer I don’t have this problem. That’s what I got when replicating the actions
In this case, the backwards vertices are not selected when using the Select box tool… Probably some Blender’s settings. Thanks anyway
In your first example, you had two different objects. One in edit mode, one not.
In the second example, it’s all in edit mode.
In your last two examples the front part is hidding the back part… but not so in your initial post:
…and so for the object to edit… nothing was “hidden” (other objects do not count in here )…
