Aygul - The Human Project

So, It’s been so long since I wanted to work on my human project and I think this is a good time as any to do so.

Goals:

  • Try to make a human face to the best of my abilities.
  • Try to rig and animate the face.

Software:
Blender mostly + substance painter (failed!) + Photoshop

Steps so far:

  1. Sculpt (on step 2)
  2. retopo (seems ok.)
  3. texture + materials (working on it)
  4. groom (working on basic stuff)
  5. rig (no bones so far)
  6. animate (so far basic showcasing)

This topic will act as a daily log. feel free to comment though.

@yakuzakazuya would love your input on this project.
@Blender10der Glad you did! :blush:
Day2:
More sculpt and start of retopo.
not happy with the lips will fix tomorrow.

anything you want to add to retopo? It would be nice to know if there is a mistake and fix it this early.

Fantastic figure… ear is not attached to head is my only comment.
Very lovely “quiet beauty” as they say… outstanding work!:+1::+1::+1:

Thank you. I didn’t attach ear in sculpt cause blender on my pc could not handle more then 3.5m tris so I worked on lower res in ears + worked on face while isolated so it I never go over budget.
for the ear retopo I’ll add and attach them tomorrow.

Edit: also planning to to another sculpt on top of retopo and bake the sculpt to maps.

Could not sleep without finishing this.

Would love your input on the retopo. I don’t know if this animation safe or anything. Guess I test it with some simple rig tomorrow.

Looking good overall!

There is one thing that pop up when I look at the retopo mesh. Even on the poly level (regardless weather you’re doing additional sculpting on top) I’d personally try to put a bit more anatomical detail into the nose. Here’s what I’m thinking:

thanks for your input.
tweaked it a little bit will do more tweaking tomorrow.

Edit2:

Well Thanks @0rAngE I couldn’t wait for tomorrow so I had to fix this. I must say it became much pleasant!

Very cool :+1: Totally a noob question, but how did you make the upper eyelids deform along with eyeball movement?

Wrap and later shapekeys

Excellent model, and impressive eye rigging. IMO the ears ruin the anatomical correctness, it just looks way too blocky and weirdly shaped in general.

Well I could go and sculpt the perfectly shaped smooth ear but as watching many many models, differences in ears makes some models very interesting in my opinion. I think it’s like nose. You could go for perfect smooth semi anime nose or go for a more blocky nose that makes the face more interesting and not dull.
But in general yes the ears needs a bit of love.
Thanks for the comment.

I thought doing eyes was easy… well I must guess again!
ok this needs a lot of work. need to look at more reference.
the point that eyes are3 open skin tends to fold. I have a bit of problem modeling that…

Should I apply mirror at this point (because of shapekeys?)

I see what you’re going for, but look at reference of ‘unique’ ears like Nikki Lauda (extreme example), the ear of this model is just not correct; especially the earlobe is just to flat and planar
