.b.blend not loading

For some reason on my work laptop (windows 2K, 700mhz, 256mb ram) blender is not loading the .b.blend file when I customize and setup my interface and press CTRL-U to save presets. The next time I load blender or even press CTRL-X to erase all, it goes back to the default like it was never saved. I can double click the .b.blend file and it has my custom saved version but it won’t load it up pressing CTRL-X or reloading blender.

At first I thought this might be a bug with 2.30 as I just updated my laptop with it. But I downloaded 2.28c and tried the same things and it doesn’t load up there either. I’ve tried searching my entire hard drive for any rogue .b.blend files that it might be loading instead and deleted them… but still no luck. Any ideas anybody?

I also posted this over at blender.org but still no answer over there… figured elysiun gets more traffic so I’d try here as well.

(I posted the wrong thing here before)

you had an older version of blender installed, yes?
do a find file thing and remove (or rename) .b.blend

quoth myself:

z3ro d: Don’t know if you check here or over at blender.org more.
Anyways… I’ve deleted and removed any .blend files from my local system and still cannot get blender to load my set default preferences. I can double click the .b.blend file and it opens and has my saved screens and all but it just won’t load automatically when starting blender or pressing CTRL-X

Still not working for me. I deleted every single blend file off my laptop and mapped network drive and it still won’t load up my saved .B.blend file after I create a new one (CTRL+U). Any ideas anyone? Is there a reg key being set somewhere? is something else the culprit?

Look for the mother of default .Blends in Win2k at this “hidden location”…
C:\Documents and Settings\your_user_name\Application Data\Not a Number\Blender

Deleting this file has saved all my Blender versions to recover from some strange behaviour. If Blender starts quitting for no reason, delete this file to see if it solves the problem. If you want to keep it, add it the a .zip file and delete the original.

Hope it helps.

I had deleted the files in that folder a while back… this time… just to be sure I even deleted that folder. Still no luck though. Any other ideas?

Reformat your harddrive and install linux

I encountered this problem after adding “HOME” to my environment variable for use with some Windows ports of Unix software. The solution I found was to copy the .b.blend to where the HOME variable pointed. Deleting the variable also fixed the problem (but broke a lot of other stuff). If you don’t have the HOME variable and are still having the problem, you might try using it to override wherever Blender is looking for .b.blend.

I find the previous posters username offensive. I got a thick skin, but I don’t want to see these boards brought down by names like this. I think of this place as a safe haven for some reason.

Enzoblue: This thread isnt about peoples names… so deal with it. He’s here trying to help another user out, thats all that matters! And I’m gratefull for the help!

phukov: Thanks a ton! I don’t know why that didn’t dawn on me earlier. Such a simple solution and reason for its functionality!!!
