B0rtal!

hey guys, I just finished this game a few days ago. This game has no goal. you only play around with what you have :P. I made it because I wanted to see how the blender game engine can handle a game with only logic bricks. I could not achieve that. so I decided to used as few scripts as possible using the help of other people, and I did the rest with logic bricks :P. I mentioned this in the website along with other stuff, you can check it out here

here is a wallpaper I made if you like the logo. I like it that’s why I made it :stuck_out_tongue:

Interesting…
Love the feel of it, very smooth.

thanks for you reply
btw, I like your signature

BPPlayer, huh? I don’t want to be one to come across as one of those whining Linux users, so I will just say this:

I wanted to try your game.
I could not.
If you had not used BPPlayer or if you would have at least compiled a Linux version, I would have been able to.
I respect your right to publish however you please.
Please do not feel a need to cater to me (unless you particularly want my feedback on your game).

I agree with you. I did not want to use the BPPlayer. However, whenever I saved the game as a runtime and tried to run the exe file it would give me a “Don’t send” message. it would do that no matter what I did, so I figured the BPPlayer was my best option.
If you know how to fix it please tell inform me so that I could fix that

P.S. I use a lot of logic bricks in this game, and I do mean A LOT! (I mentioned that in the website)

You mean it was crashing and generating a Windows error report? That could be any number of things. Are you able to make a runtime out of an empty .blend file (basic cube scene) and run that? What version of Blender are you using? Also, what version of Windows?

yes, that is exactly what it did. I tried the empty method and it still didn’t work, I also tried including the blenderplayer.exe with the blend file along with the required dll files and made a bat file to run it and it still didn’t work. I don’t know if I’m working on blender 2.64 or 2.64a but it is not from graphicall or any other place (from blender.org) and I am running windows xp professional service pack 3 32 bit

My runtimes crash too! On a XP! Twins  With newer Blenders comes more bugs. Oh, could you post screenshots? Sadly, any Blender game I play runs at 5 fps. So it isn’t worth me downloading just for that. :o

Very odd.

@ehabcharek - Have you tried the new release candidate? You should be able to get it from the official site, or from a link on BlenderNation.
@cam.dudes - Any BGE executable runs at 5 FPS? That’s really odd. Maybe you should make a thread about it.

SolarLune, I think I might have a long time ago. The thing is, I am well trained in the jedi art to be amazing at making games run EXTREMELY well. On my last game, I did such a good job that I could boost the Antialiasing to 4x with out a framerate drop. Other people with better computers don’t bother making their games run efficiently, thus I can’t try them.

@cam.dudes - do you have an intel graphics card? because I tried my game on a lot of computers and the only computers that my game had a horrible FPS in had intel graphics card in it, my graphics card is nvidia 512MB and it works awesomely, along with a lot of other games such as black ops. However, I ran my game (which cannot be compared to COD black ops in any way because black ops is obviously 144532432 times better) on a computer that had a 2GB intel graphics card and it was SUPER laggy, almost 5 FPS!
and about your second comment, people with better computers can’t test their game on a less good computer, so they don’t know how to make it faster for the slower/older computers

@SolarLune - you mean blender 2.65 test build? I downloaded that since it came out but I never tried to export a game using it, thanks for that tip, it worked!
but I used the .bat method so that I can change the icon of the .exe file :stuck_out_tongue: I updated the download file so now you can have a look c:
also!!! if you put your game (.blend files and everything related to it) in the same folder as mine and rename it as B0rtal.blend, B0rtal-Windows.exe will run your game without having to export it :D, but if you want to make your own launcher that doesn’t require exporting then you should click here c:

OH OH!! one more thing c:
if you have a linux/mac machine, can you make an executable for me pleaseeee  I will put your name in the credits ;D

Funny, I have Intel Pentium D (duel core from 2005) but, my graphics card is ATI. But (yes, another but) my computer contains hardware designed in 2003. So. . . Yeah. My graphics card is that thingy where it is untakeoutable. I don’t remeber what that term is.

people with better computers can’t test their game on a less good computer, so they don’t know how to make it faster for the slower/older computers

Of course, I am not blaming them. I am just saying I wish they did make it efficient. Maybe I said that wrong? :o Alpha sort (or blend depending the the amount being used) is one thing that wreaks havoc on my computer. But, that is kind of Blender’s fault along with my computer. BGE itself isn’t triple A or mainstream. It just doesn’t do things as well. Unreal 4 should be AMAZING with all of its own processors. insert drool here

hahaha, I hear ya! my computer is old too, like 2006 old, but it still is pretty good c:
but a few weeks ago my sister got an alienware and now I am so jealous DX
if you are willing to pay a good amount of money for a good computer then alienware should be your first choice!

Visuals are amazing! It looks just like portal!
You need to make levels though, I only played it for 5 minutes, only so much
fun can come from picking up objects and stepping through portals. The music was nice, but
the intro was pretty long, there should be a skip option.

I understand it was a test, but 1 single level would have made it a whole lot better :frowning:

thanks a lot for your comment!
I will definitely work on some levels!
and if you want to skip the intro just press enter :stuck_out_tongue:

Just to let you know it works fine on Intel, at least mine  although i would maybe cut back on the motion blur and the bump/normal mapping it looks kinda to artificial, not natural. But still really cool.

I updated it. I reduced the motion blur and the bump mapping for everything
hope you like it c:

Some screenshots would e great!

ok, I don’t know why you guys want screenshots since it is only one level, but who am I to argue with you ;D
I added screen shots to the website, just go to downloads c: hope you like 'em
