Genesis

11:1 The whole earth had a common language and a common vocabulary 11:2 When the people moved eastward, they found a plain in Shinar and settled there. 11:3 Then they said to one another, “Come, let’s make bricks and bake them thoroughly.” 11:4 Then they said, “Come, let’s build ourselves a city and a tower with its top in the heavens so that we may make a name for ourselves. Otherwise we will be scattered across the face of the entire earth.”

11:5 But the Lord came down to see the city and the tower that the people had started building. 11:6 And the Lord said, “If as one people all sharing a common language they have begun to do this, then nothing they plan to do will be beyond them. 11:7 Come, let’s go down and confuse their language so they won’t be able to understand each other.”

11:8 So the Lord scattered them from there across the face of the entire earth, and they stopped building the city. 11:9 That is why its name was called Babel -because there the Lord confused the language of the entire world, and from there the Lord scattered them across the face of the entire earth.

Yeah really nice, I like the colour scheme you chose, other than that it seems like a really well made picture (the mesh looks a little simple though… can we say “subdivide”?).

I think much of the bible is metaphor, rather than literal. I wouldn’t underestimate the advancements of ancient cultures… I mean, the Aztecs performed brain surgery (proven by skulls with holes drilled in their heads, with new growth around the holes showing they survived after the procedure). The tower of babel may not have necessarily been a physical tower into the sky, but a bridge to the spiritual world. As many people in biblical times saw heaven as being up there in the sky, the best metaphor would be a tower.

But our skyscrapers… what about our spacecraft that launch into the heavens? And the habitat we’re building in the heavens (ISS)? :slight_smile:

For highness… well, AFAIK Genesis takes part in the valley of Tigris and Euprathes, mostly, and the Ziggurat built there in ancient times were square step towers (somewhat similar to Aztec pyramids)… you know, when you live in a flat land you have to build your hills by yourself… made of unbaked bricks, no much stone there, so not a resilient material… they had to be large and cannot be too steep…

I’m working on it. Damn man you have a good memory though… I forgot that part already (just finished reading 3001). The question is what environment do I put the monolith in…? surrounded by apes, flying around Jupiter, on the moon, or on Europa…? Well only time will tell.

that is great stefano! hey, i was thinking… if they got in trouble with god for building a really high tower to reach the heavens, i mean it oculdnt of been as high as our skyscrapers today…so where is god to punish us? =(

Interesting that you were working on that. I was trying to decide the other day how to make the tower myself. I opted for the Ziggurat.

I have not yet put it into a scene. Your sand is very cool.

God had commanded the people to scatter over the earth. Instead they chose to stay together and worship other Gods, such as sun Gods, etc. The Tower was a monument to these other Gods in defiance of Gods command according to the commentaries I have read. All this happened not long after the flood and shows clearly our sinful nature. Our desire to be our own Gods.

I also no longer believe the earth is Millions and Millions of years old. I now doubt that . I decided there was not sufficient hard evidence, It was simply what I have been told all my life.I find the creation story and Great flood to be a more plausible explanation for the way things are today.

The bottom line is. If you are looking for fullfilment, peace, happiness. God does not promise an easy road ahead, but for me, it sure filled a void in my soul to know that I am a unique and special creation of a loving God, as are each of you who read this.

The reason God scattered them is because they were doing it to glorify themselves “make a name for OURSELVES” and because God told man to be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and they didn’t do it.
(At least that is what i believe)
