ok, there are some really nice tutorials on animation and rigging over the web just search google and the blender wiki and stuff.

As for rigging, actually Im quite good with it, using mocaps as well…
but for this I did it like this on purpose for added humor… crude/rough is always much funnier than polished shining 3d rendered over months… have a look at the hippos run up before scoring… it wouldnt be funny if it was a co-ordinated rig…

I can see where the awkward/clunky animation could add to the human but it doesn’t look deliberately done. It looks like someone who is just learning Blender decided to make it. I think if you had better textures/more stylized textures it would help. Maybe toon shading or the such. Something to bump the quality up and then you could still go with the awkward animation style.
To the guys that get this brand of humor, Im making this stuff for you (and me) hehe !
