Back to blender - 'My guitar'

I’ve been away and not using blender for a few weeks so I thought to get back into it I would finish this and see what people think.

Edit: Development pictures have been taken out. Here is the finished guitar:

Please give comments and/or constructive criticism. I’d find it very helpful and encouraging. Thanks.

very nice texxturing, i think if u wanted your body of the guitar to be nicer, i think u should mave made a curve, then extruded it, id like ot kno wut u did instead, extrude a cylinder?

Thanks for the compliment.

I did extrude a cylinder as far as I can remember. I’m pretty new to blender so I don’t know how to do curves yet. I’ll have a go at doing the curves soon. If you know how it would be done for this and don’t mind sharing I would appreciate it.

Thanks again.

Here is a guitar body I did with bezier circles. It’s quick and dirty just to give you an idea.

http://www.nt.net/eril/guitar.jpg

Here is the blend file

http://www.nt.net/eril/guitar.blend

after u press space bar, instead of going into meshes, go to curves, select bezier cirlce, shape it how u want, press alt+c (convert to mesh) then extrude, for ur guitar rite now, select it, then press SET SMOOTH under the edit buttons, for more info, IM me on AIM, my SN is IMAHERATIC

I tried set smooth but diagonal lines appeared on the top surface of the body. It is currently on set solid. Thanks for the info though.
I’ll take a look at that blend file. Thanks to both of you.

I’ve just noticed that a couple of things are missing, most importantly the machine heads, doh! :x :stuck_out_tongue:

Please keep comments, suggestions, etc coming, thanks.

wow dude that guitar suxx!!! wait till you see my kick ass stuff when i upload my gallery page!!! [!] [!]

Your name isn’t Dale is it? :stuck_out_tongue: If you cannot make some constructive comments then don’t say them at all (I noticed your comment on another thread as well). BTW, your web site site needs work as I get alot of syntax errors.

Three-Dee-- the guitar is a good start. Curves might have been the best way to get the body shape smooth but a mesh can work as well. If you are getting strange lines in the face when Setting Smooth, you need to do a little clean up the faces on the front. Somtimes triangles will do this.

steve_rulez – It doesn’t suck - it makes noise. :-? :stuck_out_tongue:

CurtisS – Thanks. It’s nice to get a compliment. I have updated the body using curves and it does look better.

Cree – I didn’t need to look at the blend file because I managed to make it easily myself but thanks for doing that. I’m sure others might find it useful in the future.

Update:

I’ve added the machine heads and brightened up the sky. I made a couple of minor changes also (just small things which weren’t quite right).

I managed to make the body model using a bezier circle very easily. It looks much better now. Thanks for the info skeletor.

I think the guitar model is just about done but if I ever feel the need to, I’ll add lots more detail. I didn’t cheat on this model so I think I could get some decent close-ups if anyone would like to see them.

I’ll post another picture soon. Please keep the comments coming.

Ok here is an updated version:

Better? Anything to change, add. Please share. Thanks again.

that looks much better. I made an electric guitar not very long time ago. the tune machines look great, and the body looks much better smooothed.

Awsome guitar! It look’s like there’s somthing wrong with the angle of the body as opposed to the angle of the neck, I dunno why, it’s probably just me being an idiot. What it needs is spots to mark the number of frets. You could make them specialised like jewles or somthing, that would look cool!

I’ve read through all you’re posts (all 6 LOL) and half of them are mindless critisism. Instead of saying “That guitar suxx!!”, why don’t you tell him what’s wrong with it and how to improve. If you kepp saying things like this to people, attacking them like this, then they’ll do the same to you! Either that or you’ll get kiked out of elYsiun! Just get a life, OK.

steve_rulez:
The fact you state on your web site that your not a lamer shows just the opposite.

three-dee:
Good update! Keep up the learning! The only thing that seems wierd to me… (take with a grain of salt because I don’t own or play a guitar) the neck sticking out seems a bit wide and shorter than a real one. But again… I’m no guitar expert.

Thanks for the comments. Really appreciated

Skating kow – Thanks for the suggestion. I’ve actually just added the dots before I checked this thread. The neck probably looks like that because of the angle it is at. I’ll post another update soon.

Plunneberg-- I am working from a life-model (my guitar). It might be a little wide but I think it is accurate enough. Thanks for the encouragement both of you.

Update soon

Do you ever feel very satisfied when you do a good piece of artwork?
I’m feeling that sense of achievement.

I’m very happy with this now, and it was worth the effort.

The background is just a background. The guitar is the main thing to look at in this one.

Thanks to everyone who commented. I think it’s done now but if people can think of anything to look at please share.
Comments still welcome. :stuck_out_tongue:

Thanks again

-three-dee

Looks good, did you use bezier circles to do the body and convert them to mesh.

Don’t pay attention to that idiot who said your guitar sucked. Everyone here already started hating him.

Yes I did do that. It was pretty easy. I’ve not used beziers or curves before. I will probably start learning them. Thanks for the comments.

As for what steve said, I wouldn’t take it to heart.

  1. I know it doesn’t suck.
  2. His ignorance is too amusing. :stuck_out_tongue:

Thanks for the kind words, they are much appreciated.

-three-dee.

now thats a nice guitar!

a few crits though:

  • neck is a little too short, or im just weird, pick either.
  • the “head” of the neck (wtf is the name?) usually has 2 longitudinal holes if its an acoustic guitar.

other than that: good job!

Thanks for the comment.

I think the neck looks short because it is wide. I might try making it a little narrower which should help. I might also pull it out a touch. As for the 2 holes, I’m not sure what you mean but I’m working from my guitar and it doesn’t have any. Thanks for your input.

Any more comments or suggestions?

It might be just me, but the neck seems a bit wide, or maybe just short, or I don’t know, it seems strange to me.
Other than that nothing to critisize, good work.

Mr. Steve_sucks,

uploding a gallery is not that hard, so go ahead, show us what sooo coool stuff you have made with blender. Right now you’re just a loudmouth who shows nothing, sais nothing, and seems to know nothing.
